About the role
As the Licensing Representative, you’ll be a key player in our music licensing strategy. You’ll report into, support and work alongside the Director, Licensing to achieve the overall business and team goals.
You’ll be immersed across the music and entertainment industries and collaborate with all departments of the Australian business, international affiliates, artists, managers, production companies, filmmakers, and agencies to secure licensing opportunities for our Sony owned repertoire.
Your expertise in music licensing, attention to detail, and passion for music will play a pivotal role in achieving the company’s and artist’s success in the entertainment industry. What you'll do:
- License Acquisition: Research and identify potential sync opportunities for Sony Music Entertainment Repertoire. Negotiate and secure sync licenses for use in scripted TV shows, films, documentaries, and other media.
- Relationship Building: Cultivate strong relationships with music supervisors, networks, production companies, and creative agencies to enable positive commercial outcome & business KPIs. Attend industry events and networking sessions to expand our network.
- Clearance and Rights Management: Partner with Legal & Business Affairs local team and our international licensing affiliates to ensure proper rights clearance and manage any queries on licensing agreements.
- Creative Collaboration: Collaborate with artists, managers, and internal teams (including A&R and Marketing) to source & develop opportunities, curate playlists and highlight music that simultaneously aligns with incoming music briefs and works to proactively acquire opportunities.
- Market Research: Stay informed about industry trends in the entertainment space that will impact our work flow and/or create opportunity areas for licensing.
- Internal Communication: Take responsibility of communication with frontline label teams to ensure licensing opportunities align with artist plans and brand. Clearly communicated any live opportunities to Director, Licensing and core working team on said artist/band.
- Tracking: Create and maintain thorough tracking of all outreach (emails, calls, meetings), targeted client engagements and partnership development.
Who you are:
- Degree in Music Business, Entertainment, a related field, and/or, 3+ years experience in Music Licensing.
- Passion for music and a great understanding of different genres.
- Hungry to learn and grow. You are curious, ask questions and get excited about new projects.
- Strong communication skills, highly responsive and service oriented attitude.
- Organisational skills and attention to detail are exceptional.
- Great at building strong partnerships with excellent communication skills.
- Responsible and accountable for everything you do and take pride in everything we achieve together.
- Willing and excited to support the team as needed.
- You'll continue to build your commerciality and negotiation skills while working with us.
- Love music and are willing to attend shows to support our artists.
- Team player with the ability to work collaboratively across business units.
