About the role

About the Role As a Senior Data Platform Architect at Envato, you’ll play a key role in shaping and delivering the architecture of our data platform to support business growth. This hands-on role blends strategic vision with execution, ensuring our data infrastructure is scalable, secure, and high-performing. You’ll design and implement a flexible, modern data ecosystem that integrates seamlessly across the business, covering ingestion, orchestration, storage, compute, transformation, and governance. With a "Platform as Product" mindset, you’ll create a system that data engineers and analysts love to use. You’ll also stay ahead of industry best practices, continuously auditing and refining our architecture to drive long-term success.

This is a 12 month, fixed term contract.

What you’ll be doing:

- Design and implement scalable data architecture that supports analytics, operations, and reporting while balancing cost and performance.
- Define and optimise data ingestion and orchestration frameworks, ensuring seamless integration with internal and third-party providers.
- Configure and manage dbt Cloud, setting up scalable frameworks, CI/CD processes, and integrations with other technologies.
- Develop enterprise-wide database structures, including data warehouses, schemas, and logical data models.
- Establish and enforce data governance standards, ensuring data integrity, consistency, and security across the organisation.
- Lead database management efforts, optimising performance, resilience, and security for analytical and operational needs.
- Create and maintain documentation for data architecture, ELT processes, and governance policies to ensure consistency and best practices.
- Work closely with compliance and privacy teams to uphold security, compliance, and regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR).
- Continuously audit and refine data architecture, staying ahead of industry trends and best practices.
- Foster a culture of data stewardship, promoting adherence to governance principles across teams.
- Support data engineers and analysts with frameworks and best practices, ensuring efficient and scalable data solutions.
- Lead strategic data initiatives, collaborating with leadership and stakeholders to align priorities with business goals.

About you:

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in data architecture, data management, or related roles within an e-commerce or similar environment.
- Proven expertise in data modelling, database design, and data warehousing, with a track record of successful implementations.
- Extensive experience with ELT, Integration, Orchestration and IAC tools- dbt (preferably Cloud) is a must.
- Deep understanding of data governance, data quality frameworks, and best practices.
- Extensive experience with cloud database management systems (e.g. Redshift, Snowflake, DataBricks).
- In-depth knowledge of data security and compliance regulations.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence and drive consensus across all levels of the organisation.
- Superior analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a strategic mindset.
- Experience leading large-scale data transformation projects
