The Opportunity We are currently recruiting for a Legal Counsel to join our team, based in our Melbourne Office. You will play a key advisory role in all aspects of our legal and commercial requirements for the Australian business, with a focus on negotiating customer contracts and renewals in the software space. This role provides an exciting opportunity for an experienced legal counsel to join a growing team with a strong pipeline of large opportunities across varied energy retailers. With Australia identified as a key market for Gentrack, you will help to enable winning of new business, exploring new avenues of activity and seeking opportunities that the company can uncover in its bid to develop and grow. You will also provide guidance and fulfilment in ensuring that the company adheres to regulatory and compliance requirements as needed and will be responsible for identifying and driving to completion areas for continued improvement within the business. The Specifics
- You will take a leading role working alongside other members of the sales and leadership team in all aspects of the bid response process and contract negotiation.
- This will be primarily supporting our Australia business; however you may also assist our New Zealand and Singapore entities from time to time.
- Work with Professional Services teams to put together realistic and achievable Statements of Work outlining what deliverables can be achieved with the price negotiated such as Timeframes; Costings; Key Milestones; Cash Flow) etc.
- Lead negotiation of the terms and conditions of contracts with customers, suppliers, vendors, contractors etc.
- Contribute to our strategic initiatives, ensuing alignment with Gentrack Values and Vision.
- Work alongside Senior Legal Leadership to identify, plan and implement areas for continued improvement within the origination. For example establishing new precedent documents, Legal Policies like Modern Slavery, training for staff etc.
- Work alongside and liaise with the Business Development and Sales teams to co-ordinate the compilation of successful bid responses to tenders, including providing direct support to customers where required with any issues that may arise from contracts.
- Ownership of sundry contracts such as lease agreements, NDAs, Supplier contracts, venue contracts, partnership agreements, subcontracts etc. This role will also take ownership of assigned internal compliance processes related to legal and regulatory requirements.
**What we’re looking for **_(you don’t need to be a guru at all, we’re looking forward to coaching and collaborating with you):_
- Ideally 5 -10 years PQE;
- Solid understanding of Australian contractual law, with a willingness to grow in expertise;
- Software vendor experience highly regarded, with utilities experience desirable;
- Ability to collaborate with diverse teams and provide clear, actionable legal advice to stakeholders at all levels;
- Excellent negotiation, drafting, and analytical skills;
- A proactive self-starter who can manage day-to-day tasks with a high degree of autonomy;
- Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, fostering trust and collaboration across teams and departments.
- Relevant tertiary education required, with a relevant legal qualification highly desirable.
