About the role

About the Position: The role will also assist and support the building team in delivering excellent service to team members of Council, applicants, and the broader community. Providing a responsive, prompt, and competitive customer service to the community. In addition, the role will be an integral member of the Building Team, providing technical learning support and working collaboratively to achieve goals.

The Report & Consent Officer will undertake various duties including:

  • Assess Report & Consent applications submitted to Council
  • Assisting and or representing Council in relation to applications made to the Building Appeals Board or any other Authority
  • Assist with technical information to Councils customers, internal & external
  • Assist other staff where necessary
  • Carry out other functions to support the building unit as required
  • The officer will be capable of providing detailed Building regulative compliance assessment and demonstrate clear and effective communication to customers, residents, and team members

This position may also suit a graduate town planner.

Skills and Experience:

  • Ability to listen, discuss and negotiate to resolve problems
  • Ability to accurately detail and report within a timely manner
  • Ability to effectively communicate with owners, customers, professions, and team members
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information in a simplified and succinct manner where required
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a respectful and considerate manner
  • Ability to participate in and contribute to an environment that motivates and supports the building team members to achieve high levels of performance

Requirement of the position:

  • Current Employee Working with Children’s Check
  • Satisfactory National Police Check
  • Right to work in Australia
  • Preferably an academic qualification such as a tertiary level Advanced Diploma in Building Surveying from an accredited institution or Urban Planning
  • A thorough knowledge and understanding of the Building Act, Building Regulations, Building Code of Australia Volumes 1 and 2, referenced Australian Standards, and current building practices on-site
  • Knowledge of the Planning Scheme and Planning and Environment Act is preferred; and
  • Regulative compliance experience in all classes 1 & 10 buildings
  • Current drivers’ licence
