About the role

A hybrid role, you will be initially performing 80% to 85% Data Analysis tasks, and 15% to 20% IT Business Analysis tasks, hence you will need to be a Data Analyst by profession with some experience and skills as an IT Business Analyst. At any time we may ask you to pivot and switch between both roles depending on the demands of the project and business.

Initially in the first couple of years, you will be assisting with Data Analysis work and tasks on the UNITE Program, as well as supporting other Group Customer Master Project Teams and Business Needs. 

You will be open to switching to, and elevating your IT Business Analysis skills during your time in the team, to possibly evolve into a core IT Business Analyst at the end of your Data Analysis work on the UNITE program.

 The primary and core responsibilities entail: 

  • Working with Business and Technical Stakeholders to understand the current and to-be Data and Technology landscape and undertake a gap analysis, identifying and suggesting opportunities to improve the Business / System Processes, Technology and Business Landscape.
  • Gathering, analysing, manipulating, merging, translating, transforming and defining Data from source to destination systems, and documenting / representing / visualising such Data flows, Data Insights and Data Solutions in a suitable format for business stakeholders, system designers, developers, testers, and business stakeholders to consume, consider, review and approve. 
  • A major focus on Data mapping and Data definition from consumer system, middleware, to source system components (GCM application components). 
  • Proposing Business Improvements based on Data Insights.
  • Documentation of GCM Application Strategy, GCM Project Scope and Business Requirements. 
  • Documentation of Data Analysis and Insights, Functional, Data and Technical Services Requirements Specification (when the need is for Waterfall methodology), and Data, Functional & Technical Requirements in the form of Epics, User Stories and Acceptance Criteria (when they need is for Agile methodology). There could be instances where hybrid methodologies are being run.
  • Facilitating Project Scope, Functional, Data and Solution Definition workshops.
  • Facilitating, leading and guiding the team through Agile ceremonies such as Epic and User Story Grooming Sessions, Story Point Estimation Sessions, User Story/Acceptance Criteria Walkthroughs, Sprint Showcases, Sprint Planning, Retrospectives.
  • Analysing complex Data patterns emanating from various Technology sources and interfacing / downstream / upstream applications.
  • Reviewing and providing feedback on business and technical documentation, such as business cases, business requirements documents, change management plans, solution designs, technical specifications, test cases and scripts, implementation plans etc.
  • Supporting the Requirements through the Design and Development Phases, Functional Test Defect Resolution, Implementation and Warranty Periods.

What do I need? Essential:

  • At least 5 years of experience in Data Analysis and 3 years of experience in IT Business Analysis.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Business / Information Technology or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge and practical experience in Data Analysis, Business Analysis and Project Management disciplines, processes, best practices, tools, and techniques.
  • Demonstrable Data Analytics Experience – Data Analysis, Data Profiling, Data Mapping, Data Modelling, Reporting / Data Visualisation, Transforming Complex Data Sets into Clear Business Solutions and Outcomes, Translating Technical Data into valuable insights to help drive Business/Technical decisions to Enable Business Improvement. Hands-on experience with SQL, ETL processes, data mining, data extraction, data collation, data transformation, data migration 
  • Process analysis, mapping, and re-engineering experience.
  • Waterfall principles and best practices and how to write robust functional and non-functional specifications.
  • Agile principles and best practices and how to write robust and complete user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Senior-level experience in Functional, Data, Technology Service Specification Writing – no / minimal supervision required.
  • Practical Experience in delivering end-to-end Agile and Waterfall Projects, including exposure to all related delivery processes, principles, best practices, tools, and techniques.
  • Systems Integration and Migration Experience with exposure to various integration technologies.
  • API experience is highly regarded.
  • A strong understanding of, and experience in, Technology and Business Systems strategically and operationally.
  • At least 3 years Financial Services Experience.
  • Excellent Communication, Data Analysis, Requirements Analysis, Technical Analysis, and Technical / Functional Documentation Skills.
  • Exceptional Attention to Detail, Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving Skills.
  • The ability to deliver to tight timelines in a team-based, complex environment, with a high level of resilience.
  • A high level of flexibility and adaptability and be able to respond to a very dynamic project environment.

Desirable:

  • A strong understanding of, and experience in, Westpac Methodologies and Processes: Waterfall (SELC) & Agile (AEF) delivery methods, (GDPF) processes.
  • Experience in leading a Data capability / improvement practice.
  • Experience in coaching Junior Data Analysts.
