About the role

Position Details An exciting and unique opportunity exists for talented and passionate individuals to join the Policy, Communication and Coordination Branch as Senior Policy Officer to contribute to the ground-breaking work of the Group in the areas of truth, treaty, self-determination and cultural rights. The Policy, Communication and Coordination Branch sits within the Self Determination Policy and Transformation Division and leads and facilitates a whole-of-government approach on Aboriginal affairs to improve outcomes for First Peoples. As the Senior Policy Officer you will develop and provide strategic, clear, evidence-based and solution-focussed policy advice to DPC executives, the Minister for Treaty and First Peoples, and the Premier on a range of First Peoples self-determination policy and project priorities. You will also prepare correspondence, briefings, Cabinet submissions and reports on sensitive issues to a high standard within tight timelines for the Minister for Treaty and First Peoples, the Premier, Secretary and executives.

About you As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Understanding and awareness of Aboriginal self-determination reform priorities for Victorian Aboriginal communities
  • Strong analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills
  • Highly developed interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare complex briefs, submissions, letters, reports and correspondence
  • Proven ability to initiate, deliver and manage strategic projects on time and to a high standard Please note that experience working with Aboriginal communities and organisations is a mandatory requirement of this role.
