At the SEC, we are building an enterprising and dynamic team to accelerate Victoria’s transition to renewables and help achieve Victoria’s renewable energy target of 95% by 2035.     We are working together for renewable, affordable reliable energy for all Victorians.       **Your role **  As the Market Risk Analyst at the SEC, you will be responsible for the middle office function, ensuring adherence to the Energy Market Risk Policy (EMRP). The role includes developing, managing, and enhancing risk models and metrics to ensure that exposures are managed within the risk appetite defined by the SEC’s Board, including regular reporting on metrics and potential breaches of limits. This role demands a blend of technical expertise, analytical thinking, and excellent working with people skills to be able to consolidate information from different areas and report in a meaningful way. This role is responsible for the Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) system at SEC, including liaison with the system provider to implement fixes and additional functionalities. The role supports the monitoring and controlling of counterparty credit risk by providing market expertise. The candidate should foster a cooperative error-resolution culture between front, middle and back-offices. The ideal candidate will be able to work on modelling activities in conjunction with the Energy Analytics team as well as to raise market risk awareness across different areas at the SEC by providing support and guidance on the assessment and management of earnings volatility.      This role can be based in either our Melbourne CBD office or our regional office located in Morwell.     **What you will do: ** 

  • Share accountability with GM Market Risk for managing agenda, papers and inputs for the EMRC regular and ad-hoc meetings. 
  • Support the implementation and be the key user of the ETRM system, providing support to other areas on the business and leading further development of the system. 
  • Assist in developing, maintaining, and overseeing adherence to SEC’s EMRP and procedures. 
  • Develop and maintain, in conjunction with the Energy Analytics team, models to assess SEC’s market exposures and associated risks.  
  • Work with SEC’s IT data team to ensure that appropriate structures are in place to store data and allow agile risk analysis.

      **Who you are: ** 

Your capabilities and areas of expertise that matter most for this role are: 

  • Deep understanding of energy and environmental certificate markets, both: physical and financial. 
  • Demonstrable experience working in the middle office function of a generator or retailer business, preferably both. 
  • Demonstrable experience working with ETRM systems and data integration across different applications. 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, a proactive and structured approach to identifying and resolving problems for SEC and for our customers. 
  • Ability to work at different levels of the organisation, consolidating information to allow an effective decision-making process. 
  • Outstanding collaborative work approach with other areas of the business to develop joint solutions. 
  • Alignment to the SEC ways of working and cultural behaviours: unwavering customer focus, striving for continuous improvement, and demonstrating a proactive can-do, attitude in what is a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

        Highly Desirable: 

  • Greater than 3 years working within the electricity market with exposure to renewable energy and battery storage, preferably on a gentailer type of business. 
  • Ability to work with large raw datasets, structuring analysis and reports in Excel, Power BI or equivalent reporting tool. 
  • Strong modelling skills and programming capability (e.g. Matlab, Python) as well as database skills (SQL). 
  • Good finance/accounting skills to understand impacts on P&L, cash and balance sheet items. 
  • Experience with ASX transactions. 
  • Understanding of AEMO requirements/procedures for generators and retailers.
