About the role

Position Details

2x Ongoing roles available An exciting and unique opportunity exists for talented and passionate individuals to join the new Advancing Traditional Owner Rights Branch as Senior Policy Officer, Advancing Traditional Owner Rights to contribute to the ground-breaking work in the areas of truth, treaty, self-determination and cultural rights. The responsibilities of the Advancing Traditional Owner Rights branch include leading redress and self-determination policy development, ensuring alignment between the Traditional Owner Settlement Act 2010 (Vic) and future Interim Treaty offers as well as undertaking shadow policy work on whole of Victorian Government programs and reforms impacting Traditional Owners. As the Senior Policy Officer, Advancing Traditional Owner Rights, you will contribute to and lead advice provided to the Minister for Treaty and First Peoples, the Premier, the Secretary and the Senior Executive Group on policy matters related to Traditional Owner rights and interests. You will also undertake shadow policy analysis and engagement on Victorian Government programs and reforms impacting Traditional Owners (including planning, land and waters, environment and infrastructure) to ensure Traditional Owner rights and interests are fully understood and considered, including in the context of Treaty outcomes.

About you As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Analytical conceptual and problem-solving skills with demonstrated experience in policy analysis and advice to inform government policy and programs relevant to the Treaty and First Peoples' portfolio
  • Highly developed written communication skills, including the ability to prepare and edit complex briefs, correspondence, submissions and reports
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain relationships with people at all levels and from different backgrounds and organisations
  • Strong project management, planning and organisational skills Please note that awareness and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and aspirations and Aboriginal affairs policy, legislation and frameworks relevant to Victoria are desirable requirements of this role.
