About the role

Senior Associate, Controls Assurance See yourself in our team: Institutional Banking and Markets (IB&M) is responsible for managing the Group's relationships with major corporate and government clients and institutional investors, and provides a full range of capital raising and risk management products and services. The division also performs an important internal role for the Group by providing FICC market, equity derivatives, lending and capital markets execution capabilities to other CBA business units that allows them to capture opportunities with their customers. The IB&M Non-Financial Risk and Conduct team is responsible for the management of non-financial risk for IB&M’s global operations across Australia, Asia, Europe and North America. This includes the identification and assessment of key risks that could impact the way in which the IB&M business achieves its objectives, and ensuring these are mitigated as appropriate. The Non-Financial Risk and Conduct team is responsible for developing the non-financial risk strategy and supporting the business to proactively reduce risk exposure in the business in the context of IB&M‘s risk appetite. The Non-Financial Risk and Conduct team is the central conduit between the business, Line 2 and regulators Do work that matters: The Control Assessment Senior Associate has the responsibility to test IB&M’s key controls in line with the Group’s standards and to an appropriate quality to ensure the effectiveness of the controls in mitigating the business’ risks. To deliver continuous improvement in the IB&M control test scripts to drive a more efficient and effective control environment. Key responsibilities for this role includes: IB&M Non-Financial Risk and Conduct works in partnership with the end to end IB&M business and the IB&M Chief Risk Office (CRO) team to deliver effective outcomes in IB&M.  Your role contributes to this outcome through strong and effective: Application of business acumen – specific responsibilities include:

  • Maintain an understanding of the business and a commercial appreciation of IB&M’s strategic objectives;
  • Leverage productive and proactive working relationships with the support functions, Risk Management, Group Audit and Assurance colleagues and other Controls teams
  • Develop and maintain constructive working relationships with all relevant CBA Group and IB&M stakeholder groups and functions (risk management, operations, technology, legal etc.) across different levels of seniority Risk and controls management – specific responsibilities include:
  • Conduct Control Assessment Program (CAP) testing, including the development of test scripts
  • Report on control testing findings and ensure control owners take remediation action as required
  • Support with the operational risk and compliance framework in the context of controls assessment and associated reporting processes across IB&M & globally
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of CAP through implementation of continuous control monitoring & automation
  • Record and review test results in RiskInSite so results feed into risk profiles to facilitate risk assessments We’re interested in hearing from people who have:
  • Audit / Assurance experience
  • Experience in banking and financial services industry is preferred
  • Experience in IT general control or automated control testing is preferred
  • Strong reporting and analytical skills
  • Experienced in end to end process improvement
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to build relationships with key stakeholders across different levels of seniority
  • Understanding of risk management systems and processes

  • Solid understanding of current applicable regulatory requirements relevant to regulated financial institutions in Australia and / or other global locations, preferable (but not essential) in Institutional Banking, corporate lending or FICC markets
