About the role

The position of Financial Controller is primarily accountable for managing the financial control team and tax team to optimise both the day-to-day running of compliant transactional accounts, lead the Year End and Half year financial close and to provide timely and sound technical accounting and tax advice and support to the finance team and the business. 

Reporting to the Head of Head of Financial Reporting and Control, the Financial Controller is also expected to support peers and other business managers in the development of commercial business cases and reports to meet APAMs broader business strategies and statutory accounting obligations.

Key responsibilities:

Transactional Accounting and Month-End Close:

Lead month-end processes, ensuring financial integrity and adequate controls. Manage balance sheet reconciliations and drive process improvements. Lead financial, tax, treasury, accounts payable, and accounts receivable functions. Ensure best practice management of chart of accounts and group reporting. Own APAM's finance policies and procedures, ensuring compliance. Build strong relationships with Business Partners. Cash Management and Treasury:

Forecast cash requirements and manage debt funding. Ensure compliance with IFRS 9 and oversee accounting valuations. Assist with debt covenant compliance and review/approval of payments. Budgeting and Long-Term Valuation:

Support budgeting and forecasting processes. Provide key long-term forecast information. Assist with governance on long-term valuation. Support Functions (AP, AR, Payroll):

Lead support functions, establish financial controls, and ensure policy compliance. Oversee submissions and compliance with Payment Times Report Scheme. Statutory Compliance:

Lead bi-annual audits, assist with tenant outgoings audit, and manage recharge process. Assist with bank covenant audits and prepare audit committee papers. Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax requirements, and ACCC reporting. Process Improvement:

Regularly review processes, recommend improvements, and implement as necessary. Manage implementation of new/revised processes and ensure understanding through training. Work closely with Senior Manager FP&A and CFO for clear reporting. Team Leadership:

Work towards team and individual goals, demonstrating APAC’s Core Competencies. Coach and improve accounting team performance towards a business partnering culture. Build and maintain morale, set goals, hold regular meetings, and ensure necessary support and training. The successful candidate will have:

Tertiary qualification in Commerce or Accounting  CA or CPA qualified Experience in a medium to large finance team in a public or private company Strong technical accounting knowledge gained through CA qualification and experience providing technical accounting and tax advice Extensive experience in preparing month-end and year-end results to meet statutory and business reporting requirements Sound business acumen combined with problem-solving and decision-making skills High level of ability with financial reporting and statutory compliance Broad accounting system/ software knowledge including experience using MS Office, with advanced Excel skills in particular. Interpersonally savvy with the proven ability to influence and negotiate with stakeholders at all levels
