About the role

See yourself in our team: CommBank's Business Banking unit offers tailored support with comprehensive banking and lending solutions for diverse businesses. Our dedicated Sustainable Finance team is driven by a passion for sustainability and ESG, and committed to helping customers achieve their sustainability objectives. Our Business Bank Sustainable Finance team works with a range of large corporate clients across our Major Client Group, Commercial Banking and Regional and Agribusiness Banking teams to deliver bespoke and tailored sustainable finance solutions. We also collaborate closely with internal support teams such as product, risk and operations. Do work that matters: Reporting to the Director of Sustainable Finance, the Associate, Sustainable Finance will support the origination and execution of sustainable finance transactions including Green, Social and Sustainability-Linked Loans. Specifically, under the guidance of the Director, you will:

  • Work closely with sustainable finance team members, banker teams and product partners over the lifecycle of a transaction to support and drive the development of pitching materials, transaction documentation, execution, marketing and communication materials and ongoing reporting/assurance requirements for sustainable finance transactions.
  • Develop a strong understanding of sustainable finance opportunities, risks and products as it relates to clients in various industries.
  • Collect client information to facilitate and support sustainability due diligence and research to provide a basis for structuring sustainable finance solutions.
  • Engagement with external stakeholders such as law firms and Second Party Opinion providers for market insights and external review services.
  • Input and maintain client and transaction data and ensure data accuracy and quality across systems.
  • Proactively manage the deal pipeline and support business development activities with a sales discipline.
  • Identify and take accountability for delivering continuous improvement opportunities across the team and with stakeholders.
  • Actively contribute to projects and initiatives across the Business Bank ESG and Sustainable Finance team working with the business units, Line 1 and Line 2 Risk, Group Climate Strategy, Finance and other key stakeholders. 
  • Contribute to internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Actively contribute to the team to ensure a positive team culture and support a safe and diverse workplace for all team members, customers and visitors.

  We Want to hear from you if you have:

  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills and ability to present confidently to build rapport with clients and work colleagues.
  • Experience in a consulting or banking background with large corporate clients.
  • Knowledge of sustainable finance as well as global and local frameworks, principles and taxonomies.
  • Experience working with legal documentation and preparing pitch decks and presentations.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, commerce, law and/or sustainability.
  • Critical thinking, structured problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Strong values, customer-centricity, and purpose-driven mindset.
