People often ask us how we found such incredible young talent, our secret sauce. It's as simple as using Hatch!

“We love using Hatch, not just because it’s ours, but because it is the best way to find young talent. It brings ambitious students and grads into the business who really energise our team and grow into long-term stars.”

Tom Mansfield
Chief Revenue Officer

We use Hatch Placements (short-term, flexible work placements) to pipeline top university students into our team. From intern to manager, from marketing to engineering, Hatch Placements has helped us find the next generation of Hatchlings, injecting fresh thinking, skills and energy into the team.

Hiring goals for Hatch

  • Pipeline high-potential future talent: Find rising stars early and help them grow into full-time roles.
  • Keep the culture fresh: Bring diverse perspectives and creativity from people starting their careers.
  • Stay flexible: Fill short-term resourcing needs quickly on flexible contracts, without long hiring cycles or headcount constraints.

How we use Hatch Placements

Hatch Placements are embedded in nearly every team at Hatch. Managers use Hatch to match with early-career professionals and motivated students, then review video applications to find the right fit.

Jobs range from customer success and marketing to product and engineering, with each placement typically lasting 3-6 months (before often being converted into a permanent role).

“Because early-career people don’t always have long resumes, we look for transferable skills, values alignment, motivations, passion and life experiences. Hatch helps surface that with AI and video, it’s cut my time to hire by around 50%.” Tom Mansfield, CRO

Stories of growth

Hatch placements don’t just fill gaps; they grow into core team members.

Ethan Godinho was hired as a growth and marketing associate and started by helping with marketplace inventory. His curiosity for operations and efficiency led him to move into growth operations, with hopes to one day be a senior business leader.

“Hatch gave me exposure to how a company really runs - budgets, systems, people, and all the moving parts. Now, I want to become a COO one day.”

Daisy Weight joined Hatch as a customer service intern “on a whim” because she wanted to try out the video application feature to show off her interests and passions. She’s been involved in two major marketing campaigns, product launches and now works closely with our product team as a junior product manager.

“I’ve learned that you have more transferable skills than you think. Getting in the door and being honest about what you want is the best place to start.”

Eileen Kuang, a software engineer, joined while at university and quickly transitioned from inbox tech support to building product features in a full-time position.

“It was really cool working on something that my friends at uni also used - I could see my impact immediately.”

Romeo Romero, hired initially as a candidate acquisition specialist, helped bring more young people onto the platform and is now a customer success specialist, connecting employers and candidates across Australia.

“For anyone starting out, take that first leap. These roles open doors you didn’t even know existed.”

The impact

Interns at Hatch have become some of our most vital and surprising employees, with more than 70% progressing into permanent positions.

“We’ve been astonished by how much value top uni students bring and how quickly they grow. Daisy, for example, went from supporting customers to managing product projects. Watching that kind of growth is spectacular.” Adam Jacobs, Co-Founder and CEO, Hatch

Why it works

  • Placements work on real projects from day one
  • AI-driven candidate matching for values fit ensures that they are culture carriers
  • Employment admin handled by Hatch removes the need for headcount approval
  • High conversion rate to full-time hires

“Hiring interns always brings fresh ideas. Younger people think differently, move faster, and add diversity to our team.” Ash Ramesh, CTO, Hatch

A better way to hire

We have seen firsthand the power of bringing people through placements and giving them the chance to show us what is possible. Placements let us combine purpose, flexibility and the thrill of giving someone their first shot.
